Description:
If you need a break from visiting the sites of the Main Square walk just one-half block north on Calle 62 and enjoy a meal at El Trapiche Restaurant. It's a reasonably priced place – nothing fancy – but it is open both early and late and is always crowded with locals – families, students, and people who have just enjoyed one of the Teatro Manzanero's many free performances. El Trapiche serves typical Yucatecan cuisine as well as salads, pizza and omelettes. Tacos are always a good choice and come in orders of three, with choices including chicken, chewy arrachera steak, or the juicy pork ones cooked al pastor (MX$26-54/US$2.60-5.40). Beverages include refreshing aguas de fruta – blended fruit juice, national and international beers (MX$22/US$2.20) and a decent selection of tequilas (MX$30/US$3). On Saturday nights when Calle 62 is closed to traffic, a crowd fills the tables set up on the street.
