Description:

Artesanaria, an inviting shop across from Santa Lucia Park, is locally owned and sells beautiful, unique items from communities across Mexico. What impresses you immediately when entering the store is how beautifully Artesanaria displays its merchandise, carefully lighting it so that the special qualities of each piece catch your eye. Cousins Claudia Gómez Peniche and Raquel Jacobo Borge own Artesanaria and you will frequently find them in the store, ready to explain where they find each item; they gained their love of fine crafts and the best sources for them from a favorite aunt. Taking pride of place at Artesanaria are ceramic or tin Nativity scenes, softly woven scarves, delicate silver jewelry, handmade fabric dolls, and the fantastically painted, spiky wooden animals from Oaxaca called alebrijes. Prices are reasonable given the extremely high quality of the merchandise.
