- For a reaffirmation of man's dominion over nature, head south on Benito Juarez Avenue. Just past the airport, you will find Merida's Ciudad Industrial—the city within the city. Massive steel canisters, elevated conveyors, and miles of sinuous tubing form the inner workings of the Ciudad. Over time, a thick crust of sulfur has accumulated on the white dome of the refinery, recalling the stalagmites of the nearby Cenotes caves. Excellent views of the cooling tower are afforded from the parking lot of the wholesale screw and bolt distributor next door (17 315, Ciudad Industrial, 97288 Mérida, Yucatán, Mexico). A good pick for airport delays.
