Coqui Coqui owners Francesca and Nicolas Malleville have added another exquisite property to the company's growing portfolio of luxury destinations – L'Epicerie Boutique on Mérida's Calle 55. L'Epicerie, operated by Nicolas' friendly brother Julian, offers Francesca's interpretation of the silky rebosa – the Mexican wrap that falls somewhere between a scarf and a shawl; no elegant woman is ever without one on a cool evening. In the unusual fabric necklaces and handbags that L'Epicerie sells, the designer draws on Yucatán's hammock weaving tradition, updates it with her contemporary fashion sense, and creates accessories that are something entirely new. Coqui Coqui first drew attention with the hand-blended scents prepared in its Valladolid perfumerie and they are available at L'Epicerie, too: agave, tropical woods, orange blossom, flor de mayo, and coconut. The boutique occupies an original 19th century house near Santa Lucia Park that is as beautiful as the unique merchandise displayed in it.
