Museo Universitario del Chopo / UNAM

Museo Universitario del Chopo / UNAM - Mexico City

  • Description:

    • While primarily known as a visual art exhibition space, Museo del Chopo, located in Santa Maria La Ribera in Mexico City, actually builds a pretty interesting calendar of nightlife activities. A fairly young crowd – UNAM students and others – patronizes the museum's film, music, theater, and dance performances.

The Cinematógrafo del Chopo, housed in a 90-seat cinema, shows many different kinds of films as part of series curated by Cineteca Nacional and others. Each temporary exhibit comes with an evening opening reception – no invitation required. Music producers also make good use of Museo del Chopo's unusual spaces for record launches.

One note of caution: Santa Maria La Ribera can still harbor street crime in the evenings; when departing at night, call a taxi or walk with groups of people heading Metro Revolución.
