Description:
- Mexico City's most elegant nightlife destination is the Palacio de Bellas Artes, or Palace of Fine Arts. Located in the Historic Center between the Alameda and the Zócalo, the Bellas Artes is the epicenter of the country's cultural life. The main auditorium, notable for its stunning Tiffany glass house curtain, is the home of such esteemed groups as the National Symphony Orchestra, National Dance Company, and National Opera Company. International groups including the Los Angeles Philharmonic and American Ballet Theater appear here regularly, too. Concerts by the Bellas Artes Chamber Orchestra and other classical music groups are presented in the intimate Sala Manuel M. Ponce, named after one of Mexico's most famous composers. In the smallest venue, the Sala Adamo Boari, book readings, conferences, and expositions take place. Since opening in 1934, the Palacio de Bellas Artists has hosted legendary artists, Rudolf Nureyev, Maria Callas, and Luciano Pavarotti, among them.
