With around 25 million people crowding Mexico City cheek by jowl, lots of spaces in the open air are necessary to keep them all fit and sane. This list of the Top 10 Outdoor Activities in Mexico City contains some of the best choices for relaxing or playing al fresco.
The #1 pick is Bosque del Chapultepec - Chapultepec Park. It is Mexico City's Central Park and an expansive green space that stretches along both sides of Paseo de la Reforma. Joggers speed along the park's many pathways and kids playing soccer can be found on just about any flat surface.
Rent a Bike and ride along Paseo de la Reforma is the #2 choice. Every Sunday morning, the avenue is closed to vehicles and bicyclists take over. You can rent a bike at one of the many EcoBici racks that can be found along Reforma or in such nearby neighborhoods as Cuauhtemoc, Condesa, and Roma.
Viveros de Coyoacan, #3 among Outdoor Activities, is a little explored but beautiful park located near the Frida Kahlo House Museum, the Casa Azul. Viveros means "nursery" in Spanish, and you will see rows of saplings gaining strength and size before replanting in one of the city's other parks. Athletes of all sorts use Viveros de Coyoacan for training - you might even see apprentice bullfighters practicing their bullish moves.
Amusement parks are popular the world over, no less so in Mexico City. Six Flags, #10, matches fresh air with the excitement of roller coasters.
