  • The Best of NileGuide
  • El Bosque de Chapultepec, Mexico City's Central Park, is the home to the renowned National Anthropology Museum A visitor could easily spend a week exploring Chapultepec - here's the Top Ten List of Things to Do Near the Anthropology Museum.

First, read NileGuide's overview of Chapultepec Park, #1 on the list. This will orient you to the park's many attractions, spread over areas called simply First, Second, and Third Sections.

The Anthropology Museum itself is #2 but it's the main reason most visitors come to Chapultepec Park. The vast collection of pre-Columbian art and ethnography is impossible to take in in one visit: if you have just one day here, visit the Gulf Coast (Olmec), Aztec, and Mayan galleries for an introduction to Mexico three most famous cultures.

Chapultepec Castle, #3, is actually a destination for many reasons including #4, the Monumento a los Ninos Heroes. The hilltop castle was once the home of Emperor Maximilian and Carlota and Mexico's presidents. Their rooms are preserved and other parts of the castle serve as the National Museum of History.

#8 on the list, Auditorio Nacional, is a striking modern auditorium on Paseo de la Reforma. It's a regular stop on the tours of Mexican and international pop singers as well as other large scale concerts, dance performances, and film presentations.

If you've had enough of museums and palaces and fine art, cross behind the National Auditorium to the Chapultepec's Second Section to #10, Feria Chapultepec Mágico, an amusement park.
