Fraccionamiento Hipódromo-Condesa

Description:

  • The Colonia Hipódromo Condesa was begun in 1925, with the intention that it would be one of the most important urban residential projects of the post-revolutionary era. Divided over 300,000 square meters, it was built on land that formerly belonged to the Jockey Club, and was inaugurated during the dictatorship of Porfirio Díaz. Its oval shape is due to the fact that Avendia Amsterdam was built over the old racetrack itself, and this important ridged thoroughfare also borders the Parque Mexico, one of the most picturesque places in the city. A distinctive feature of this particular colonia is the abundance of Art-Deco influenced structures that have survived over the years. Together with the old sector of Miami, it has one of the greatest concentrations of such structures in the world. The area also has many cafés and restaurants.
