Museo Antiguo Palacio del Arzobispado

  • Type: Art Museums/Galleries
  • NileGuide Expert Says:

This fantastic piece of colonial architecture is also used as a venue for very appealing and moderately prized dance and theatre performances from Spain and the Americas. Check with venue for dates and prices.

  • Description:

    • Art and history fuse together in this 16th century house, once occupied by the highest clerical authority in the so-called New Spain. The opulently decorated façade as seen today, is similar to the original. Visitors can see a varied collection of art belonging to the Secretaría de Hacienda y Crédito Público (Public Housing and Credit Secretary). Visitors can check out the remains of the Tezcatlipoca Temple, once part of the Main Temple of Tenochtitlán. So it's possible to see objects and works of art from pre-Hispanic times, the colonial masterpieces of Juan Correa and the works of modern greats including Diego Rivera and Rufino Tamayo. You will also find a recreated nineteenth century reception room and there is a touch display for the visually impaired.
