Museo Arqueológico de Xochimilco

Description:

  • This museum recreates the life of the inhabitants of Xochimilco, which was, in ancient times, an important commercial center of the pre-Hispanic world. Today, it enjoys special significance in Mexico City as the place where artefacts of customs and traditions dating from such times are still in evidence. Among the objects exhibited are cultural remains from the Mexica, Olmeca and Teotihuaca peoples. Also on show are findings from the archaeological digs that took place in Xochimilcos foundations, along with a mural showing a Spanish soldier fighting a mythological man-tiger.
