Description:

  • Polyforum Siquieros is a Modernist masterpiece of architecture, sculpture and painting, a cultural center and meeting place whose design is itself a work of art. The Polyforum contains the world's largest mural, the final, colossal work by renowned Mexican muralist David Alfaro Siqueiros. The designers' goal was to integrate architecture, sculpture and painting into one seamless whole. The dynamic building is 12-sided on the outside and 8-sided on the inside. Each of the twelve exterior panels is an enormous canvas for Siqueiros' unique sculpted painting style. The Polyforum's interior is as active as its exterior. The Universal Forum, located on the fourth level, barely contains the exuberance and vitality of Siqueiros' ultimate painting, The March of Humanity on Earth and Towards the Cosmos, Misery and Science. It covers 4331 sq m (46,618 sq ft) of curving wall and ceiling space. A cafĂ©, gallery, and the Teatro Polyforum occupy the same building.
