Fun in Mexico City

Description:

Mexico City is a huge place and this guide divides the tour in four days, attempting to give you a bit of everything. Starting at downtown with the main square, museums and traditional restaurants.Then go to the Chapultepec/Finantial district, where there are some attractions on the nicest part of town and great places for eating.Day three takes you to the south of the city, to the floating gardens and Mexican barbecue.Finish off with a day trip to the pyramids.

Day 1 - Mexico City


Day 1: Downtown.
Visit the center of Mexico City, which has been on the same place for more than a thousand years, you can start at Zocalo and walk to the Templo Mayor museum (ruins of the aztec city before the Spaniards came), the Cathedral which is built over the aztec temple, the Government Palace, etc.
Then, go for lunch at 'La casa de los azulejos' a moorish style building which houses the first Sanborns (a Mexican chain restaurant/store which has been around for many decades), afterwards visit the Fine Arts Palace and ideally see a show there (Folkclorick ballet or regional dances are common in their calendar).
Finish by having diner at La Destileria, a Mexican restaurant famous for its huge selection of tequilas.

Day 2 - Mexico City


Day 2. Start with breakfast in 'La Condesa' one of the hip neighborhoods in the city, then go to the Anthropology Museum (one of the most celebrated prehispanic collections in the world), then visit the Chapultepec Castle, views of the city on the home of the only emperor Mexico ever had.
Afterwards you can just walk around Chapultepec forest (its actually a park, similar to Central Park in NY, you can also go to Chapultepec Zoo) and close with a Mezcal drink and light diner back in 'La Condesa' at a fantastic terrace from one of the nicest boutique hotels in town.

Day 3 - Mexico City


Day 3, South of the City.Start with a power breakfast at Arroyo, traditional Mexican barbecue and sauces. Then visit Xochimilco (floating gardens which date from the aztec days), the Dolores Olmedo Museum and finish the day off walking and relaxing at Plaza San Angel, a great neighborhood for shopping (arts, fashion, etc.) and have something to eat around here.

Day 4 - Mexico City


Day 4, A day trip to Teotihuacan.
Visit the pyramids to get a better idea of the ancient cultures in Mexico, you can either drive there or take a tour on a shuttle. When coming back have a nice diner at Villa Maria, a Mexican/Fusion cuisine favorite, try the Tamarind Margaritas!
