A new location; the same great food

  • Description:

    • While breakfast-seeking tourists flock to the likes of IHOP, dining on run-of-the-mill morning fare, locals come here for the type of start-your-day meals chains try in vain to duplicate. Having moved from its 20-plus-year home in the dated, somewhat tired Penguin Hotel to a space overlooking Ocean Drive in the decidedly more stylish Z Ocean Hotel, the Front Porch Café continues to be a favorite among locals seeking cheap morning eats and weekend brunch. Casual in style and pace, this down-to-earth eatery has huge pancakes, delicious French toast and stuffed Mediterranean omelets well worth waiting for, even on busy Saturday and Sunday mornings.

    Message from Front Porch Café

If you're looking for the best breakfast on Ocean Drive, you've found the right place at the Front Porch Cafe. South Beach locals have long-appreciated this tiny spot on the north end of the Ocean Drive strip for its quick service (in South Beach !?!), and pleasant setting on the ground level of the Penguin hotel. Due to the Front Porch's popularity the wait is sometimes excessive, but the food is definitely worth it, as are the conversations you might overhear in the tightly packed cafe. Best bets on the menu include a hearty order of granola pancakes, the fresh fruit salad and any of the just-squeezed juices. Later in the day, smart locals gather to enjoy home-style cooking in a laid back atmosphere at this quiet end of Ocean Drive. This might be the least expensive option for reliable dining on this tourist-driven strip.
