Hammered by a series of hurricanes over the years, and having fallen into serious disrepair, Chekike Area is reopening its doors after seven years! Its popular picnic area will be open from dawn to dusk on a seasonal basis from December through April each year. The area offers a boardwalk, wildlife viewing, picnic shelters, barbecue grills, a nature trail and portable restroom facilities.

  • Chekika reopened for day use activities on Saturday, December 16, 2000. The campground remains closed, pending repairs of damage caused by Hurricane Irene in October 1999. Facilities presently available include a picnic area and nature trails. There is no visitor center at this location.
