Public transportation in Miami, FL is really very difficult, but depends on where you are starting from and where you are trying to get to.

Busses run on the major routes, but be prepared - it rains often in Miami and it when it's not raining it gets very warm (hot) Buses are not always on time on lesser used routes and may have limited hours of operation.
Likewise wit the MetroRail - the elevated train system that goes to nowhere. It actually is OK also if you are close to one of the stations and your destination is also close to a station. Otherwise it is almost completely useless.

The website http://www.miamidade.gov/transit/ is helpful but you really need to know where you want to go to and a map of the county might be helpful as a reference.

Good Luck!!!!
