If they are strong swimmers then Miami Beach is fine, but remember that weather here plays a serious role, we are getting a lot of wind lately and that will stir up the oceanside swells, so pretty much anywhere will do. Please do not forget that there are parts of Miami Beach that are nude beaches. For a more relaxed place, you may want to go to Key Biscayne, their you have the option of either the bay side or oceanside. Even though the bay side is not as blue as one would want, it will be safer for your children. Enjoy yourselves

Really depends a lot on where your hotel is and how much mobility you have. The beaches on Miami Beach a very nice, great swimming if it's not too windy - you must watch out for rip tides - since you're on the ocean. If you're on Miami Beach, and only for a day, it may not be worthwhile to go anywhere else. The public beach on Key Biscayne (Crandon Park) is very nice, but if you don't have a car a taxi ride might cost US$ 40 - 50 from Miami Beach.
