Description:
Whoever said Miami lacks culture obviously never spent much time looking for it. It may not rival New York City in its offerings, but the city is home to more than a few art venues and cultural performances, thanks to a strong presence of artists, musicians and entertainers. From Adrienne Arsht Performing Arts Center, the expansive crown jewel of Miami’s performing arts scene, to the modern and contemporary collections found in the galleries of the Wynwood Arts District, Miami has a little something for almost every taste.

The jewel in the crown of Miami's entertainment scene, Adrienne Arsht Performing Arts Center (formerly the Carnival Center for the Performing Arts) is a 570,000-square-foot facility that happens to be the country's third-largest performing arts center. There are two principal venues in the center: a concert hall and an opera house, both of which can seat more than 2,000. Hosting year-round Broadway and Disney performances as well as acting as the home of the New World Symphony, Miami City Ballet, Florida Grand Opera, and the Concert Association of Florida, the center also hosts a full slate of year-round events put on by a combination of nationally-known personalities and talented local groups.

Once a rundown industrial wasteland, the Wynwood Art District today boasts the largest concentration of art galleries in the city, with close to 50 creative establishments scattered throughout the neighborhood of Wynwood (known as "Little San Juan" by longtime Miami residents). On the second Saturday of each month, the district hosts an art walk, an event that provides art lovers with an opportunities to explore galleries like the urban realist Paredes Fine Art Studio (2311 NW 2nd Ave., 305/219-6688) and the contemporary photo-based installations of Abba Fine Art (233 NW 36th St., 305/576-4278) as well as the insightful exhibits at Dorsch Gallery (151 Northwest 24th St., 305/576-1278) and the vast offerings of the sprawling 3.2-acre Bakehouse Art Complex (561 NW 32nd St., 305/576-2828).

Description:
The Children's Museum, across the MacArthur Causeway from Jungle Island, is a modern, albeit odd-looking, 56,500-square-foot facility that includes 12 galleries, classrooms, a parent/teacher resource center, a Kid Smart educational gift shop, a 200-seat auditorium, and a Subway restaurant. The museum offers hundreds of bilingual, interactive exhibits as well as programs, classes, and learning materials related to arts, culture, community, and communication. Even as an adult, I have to say I was tempted to participate in some kids-only activities and exhibitions, such as the miniature Bank of America and Publix Supermarket, and a re-creation of the NBC 6 television studio. There's also a re-creation of a Carnival cruise ship and even a port stop in a re-created Brazil. Perhaps the coolest thing of all is the World Music Studio in which aspiring rock stars can lay down a few tracks and play instruments.

Description:
For a time, most people who entered this address did so with one purpose in mind: to make a beeline straight for the basement restaurant, the Metro Kitchen + Bar, which was a favored hangout for B-list semi-celebrities and their groupies. Now, with a stylish renovation under its belt, the Astor still wows with its stylish Maison d'Azur eatery. But that's only half the story. This hotel itself has 40 beautifully restored, restful guest rooms with comfortable beds and an upscale feel. While the views on offer are less than perfect, the rooms are quiet and its popular bar and courtyard easily add to the hotel's allure.
