Hiking in Moab

Adventure capitol of the Southwest, Moab offers plenty of hikes to do. As the launching pad for two of the country's most rugged, beautiful national parks, Arches and Canyonlands, not to mention an abundance of other surrounding public lands, the Moab area has hundreds of trails to choose from. Here, we list some of our top hikes to do, ranging from quickies to ones that can reveal gorgeous views all day long. Delicate Arch Trail is usually on most people's list for good reason. This iconic arch is truly beautiful, is well-placed for maximum photographic excellence, and is the sort of hike that earns you a pat on the back when you've completed it. A bit challenging, this hike is best planned in advance. If you just want to look at the arch but not hike right to it, there's a shorter view trail you can take.Arches is home to over 2,000 of those natural formations, so you have plenty more to see while you're there. We like Sand Dune Arch because it's fun for kids and a shadier trail if you visit in the summertime. Landscape Arch is longer than a football field and very thin, especially after a chunk of it fell off in 1991. For an extended treat of natural arch bonanza, hike the entire Devils Garden Primitive Loop trail. This isn't for sissies, and it's beyond beautiful. A true backcountry experience that showcases many of the stunning rock formations in Arches, this loop is a top ten indeed. We included Behind the Rocks as your bonus Moab secret spot. It's so secret, in fact, that we don't even have GPS coordinates to it...but follow our directions to discover why Moabites treasure this out-of-the-way natural playground.
