Some of the best things for kids to do in Moab are just as much fun for the rest of the family. We selected some of our favorite family-friendly activities, most of them active outdoor things to do. The Mill Creek swim hole tops our list of best family-friendly activities because it's a cool locals' secret that gets kids outside and moving while cooling down in the summer heat.
Horseback riding at Hauer Ranch can hardly be beat for coolness. Pretending you're in the old Wild West as you ride your cowpony is plenty of fun.
Neighboring Arches National Park has some awesome hikes for kids. Balanced Rock is super short and super easy. South of Moab, Behind the Rocks and the Hidden Valley Trail abut one another, and both are fabulous outdoor playgrounds for kids. Hidden Valley Trail reveals a dramatic view of the entire Moab valley from the top, and Behind the Rocks has endless exploration opportunities available.
Who wants to see ancient dinosaur tracks? The whole family, probably! Potash Road and Copper Ridge both offer excellent viewing opportunities that are driving-accessible from Moab. And if you want more information about dinosaurs as well as other neat hands-on things to do, the Museum of Moab is a really fun place to while away a few hours and learn more about the area. Hole N" the Rock, you'll notice, is indoor-outdoor based. It's definitely kitschy, but it's also kind of cool with its amazing rock house and petting zoo geared for kids.
To round out some adventuresome outdoor activities for the family, we recommend Holiday Expeditions. They have a long history of providing excellent guiding service and they specialize in family trips. Combine river rafting and horseback riding for a memorable family visit to Moab.
