La Sal Mountain Loop Road Scenic Backway

  • Type: Drives
  • NileGuide Expert Says:

Some of the best views in southern Utah, especially during spring wildflower blooms and fall color riots

  • NileGuide Expert tip:

If you plan a winter drive, check for road closures first

    Description:

    • This top-rated backway drive has scenery galore. Driving it during the fall colors is perhaps most recommended, but it's really accessible anytime of year (although winter can be dicey). This tour really reflects the area's diversity since it starts in desert red rock glory and crests at alpine mountain grandeur. Hold onto your hats during the hairpin turns and leave your motorhomes at, um, home. There are plenty of pullouts commanding majestic views

Start on 191 six miles south of Moab. It wends its way north over the La Sals, through Castle Valley, and eventually ends at U-128.
