- great place where you can find anything, from A-Z A visit to Mombasa begins with a visit to the city's symbol: the magnificent, crossed tusks on the port road and at the entrance to the heart of the city. This 'monument' commemorates a visit by the then princess Elizabeth in 1952, on her way to a safari further inland. Alert passers-by will notice that the four tusks create the letter M (of Mombasa), which was sheer coincidence!
