    • Shwedagon Pagoda is one of the most popular site to visit when you get to Tachileik. It is situated on the highest hill in town and it preserves the vibrant heritage of Buddhism. Shwedagon--the name itself means Golden Pagoda: the pagoda is constructed of tons of pure gold and gems. Local people cherish the site as a part of their national identity. There is no entrance fees, but if you are willing to do some merit and 'dhana', there are some monks on the site. The site is enchanting, beautiful, and peaceful. For travelers who want some tranquil and energy-recharging time, Shwedagon Pagoda is a good place to go: it is also a wonderful place to meditate. At night time, the Shwedagon Pagoda stands elegantly with bright shinning lights reflecting the golden pagoda: "local people will say; It shins like a bright golden moon."
