NileGuide Expert Says:
Local Expert, Sonja Holverson selects the "Couronne de Homard aux artichauts et aux courgettes", when available. It's lobster from Brittany with artichokes and couragettes. It also depends on what Mr.Monbaron, the restaurants fisherman, has caught. Perch, trout, and "Omble" a white lake fish is always good.
NileGuide Expert tip:
It's not often that one gets to eat in an elegant and atmospheric 14-15th century inn so this is quite an experience even for locals. Besides, it's located in the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Lavaux vineyards.
Description:
Listed as a Relais & Châteaux property this small luxurious inn is built on 14th-century foundations, in the center of the village of Cully. It's best know for it's exquisite restaurant and well-known chef Adolfo Blokbergen. Within a setting accented with antique paneling and an elegant sense of alpine rusticity, you can order such classic dishes as steamed supreme of pigeon with truffles, a cold consommé of lobster with fresh tarragon, ravioli stuffed with scallops and served with a caviar-enriched champagne sauce, and a poached filet mignon of veal with summer vegetables. Although a full complement of European wines is offered, ask for a Swiss vintage, particularly one from the surrounding region.
Nine comfortable, somewhat frilly-looking bedrooms are on-site (350F/$287/£149 double; 490F-580F/$402-$476/£209-£248 suite). Rates include breakfast.
