Description:
In 1996, Letizia and Roberto Fioravanti opened Montalcino's first new hotel in years, offering friendly service at a comfortable inn of modest refinement. The building probably served the Sienese army as a refuge from the Florentines during their incessant wars in the Middle Ages. The halls are carpeted, the staircase is travertine, and the rooms are mainly rustic in style, with wood-beamed ceilings and terra-cotta floors. Most are furnished with the wares of the artisan wood workshops of Arezzo. The four mini-apartments, with lofted master bedrooms and a pair of futon chairs in the living space, are great for families. A drop-dead view of the Val d'Orcia and Val d'Arbia is visible from about half the rooms, the breakfast space, and the gravel-covered terrace with a tiny pool out back. The Capitani is located in the heart of Montalcino's pedestrian zone, making for a quiet stay.
