Description:
Upon his death in 1867, the artist bequeathed to Montauban more than two dozen paintings and some 4,000 drawings (more than any other museum except the Louvre). They're on display at this 17th-century bishops' palace. One painting is Christ and the Doctors, a work Ingres completed at 82. The Dream of Ossian was intended for Napoleon's bedroom in Rome. On the ground floor are works by Antoine Bourdelle, who was influenced by Rodin. The busts Bourdelle sculpted of Ingres and of Rodin are particularly outstanding.
