Monterey Bay at a glance
Monterey- the biggest of the quiet communities and hidden resorts on the Central Coast is home to Steinbeck's Cannery Row and a world-famous aquarium. Dine sumptuously in Clint Eastwood's Carmel, then drive 30 miles of dramatic coastline to Big Sur.
Monterey Bay history
Supported by education (California State University Monterey Bay is
making deft use of the former Fort Ord), tourism and agriculture,
and supplemented by the inevitable Internet startups, today's
Monterey is secure in its place away from the frenzied New Economy
culture to the north. A look into the past will surely shed some
light on this pleasant present, and perhaps offer some clues about
the future.
