  • The Best of NileGuide
  • Not surprisingly, there are tons of hotels with beautiful ocean views all along the shore of Monterey Bay. From upscale glamour to cozy comfort, the options to choose from are manyfold and widely varied. And there's an option to fit any price range. Around Monterey itself, check out some of the classic hotels in the older buildings along Cannery Row. Within walking distance of the aquarium, this is the perfect spot to stay for a family vacation or romantic weekend getaway. Newer are the impressive modern hotels that have sprung up around the bay in recent years. Views of the ocean can be spectacular, and many have extra amenities such as golf courses, full spas, and services for wine tours and water activities. Some, like the Carmel Valley Ranch, are on acres and acres of land, and there are tennis courts, hiking trails, and golf all within a stone's throw. Don't worry if your budget doesn't include this kind of hotel - there are lots of less expensive options. You can easily find comfortable unique little hotels that are the perfect base for a surfing or hiking vacation. Small lodges and bed and breakfasts are also cheaper, and can be just as fun if you're planning on spending most of your time outdoors and/or in town. Or try a beach motel, like the Edgewater Beach Motel, which despite the name is quite upscale and comfortable -- yet also laid-back and decked out with barbecue grills and a coin-operated laundry room. For a more long term stay or for a larger group, vacation rentals are a good choice. Many are right on or near the beach, and can provide a quieter stay than the closer quarters of hotels. They also usually have washers and dryers in addition to full kitchens, and some are even dog-friendly.
