Reserve camping spaces in advance as they fill up quickly. Visit the beach at sunset, but be sure to wear warm clothes. For the best pictures, use a tripod to capture the sunset through rocky arches.

  • Description:

    • Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park is, without a doubt, the GREAT outdoors. It's the perfect place for a daytrip of hiking along picturesque coastal trails or camping beneath a cathedral of giant redwoods. The air here is uncommonly crisp, aromatic, and rejuvenating. The views are stunning. The beaches are uncrowded. Pfeiffer State Park can convert even the most stubborn urbanite who is skeptical of the "wilderness" to a nature-worshipper. It also helps that there are clean bathrooms and warm showers (bring quarters – 25 cents for every 3 minutes). If camping, book in advance – especially to secure a site along the river. Quiet time begins at 10pm and is taken seriously by campers and park rangers.
