There's much to see and do in the city of Monterrey. Start out at the Museo del Historia Mexicana, where you can learn all about the local history of the area through interactive exhibits. Afterward wander around downtown, starting in the heart of the area, the Plaza Mexico. This is a prime location to take in the sights and truly see what this culture is all about. Peruse local vendors and have a leisurely lunch. Then check out the Puente Atirantado, a beautifully modern suspension bridge that is one of the architectural wonders of the region.
When you finally tire of the city life, head outside of Monterrey for a quick escape in the Parque Ecologico Chipinque, the ecological park in the area. It offers a release from the hustle and bustle of city life and is a great choice for the whole family.
