Dear Inna, good night!
The most popular beaches of Montevideo (Pocitos, Ramirez, Malvin, Buceo) are a bit dirty and crowded in my opinion.

I would recommend you to visit Playa Mailo, a small beach in the western part of Montevideo... it's not easy to reach the place, as there are a few buses to go there. A taxi from the city centre would take 20 minutes approximately.

As the beach is far from the crowded neigbourhoods, it's a quiet and clean place.

If you tell me the exact date you're coming, maybe I could accompany you.

You have Pocitos Beach at 20' of Montevideo's bay, it's a nice beach, quite with a nice view of Montevideo's seaside, a part of it obviously...
Come with more time to visit Punta del Este, La paloma, Punta del Diablo, one of the best beaches in Uruguay and South america!
I hope this information can help you with your doubt, kisses!! from Montevideo, Uruguay.

Dear Inna, if you are arriving and leaving by plane, our Airport is near Carrasco Beach, a nice, open beach. You may go just in front of the hotel Carrasco, that is at the RAMBLA y AROCENA ST. There most neighbours attend, and it is quiet. Avoid weekends, if you want peace. Hope that special day does not rain... you never know. If so, I could recommend some artificial tanning centers, lol
Best regards, awaiting to be of more help,
Laura

If you will be only 8 hours, go to Pocitos beach. The best beaches are in the Golden Coast, at the east outside Montevideo (30 mins - 1 hour in car).

I agree with Ismael - Pocitos is a good option with so few hours. The beach is about relaxing and no worries on time right? Plus, many conveniences are around this beach along with a nice boardwalk to walk on.

If your looking for more tranquility than the hustle and bustle of Buceo and Pocitos beaches where you can see and hear cars, I recommend a long walk on the wide open beaches of Carrasco. We live close to Carrasco beach so if you'd like to see the birds and native trees of Parque Rivera, 1 block from our house, and eat an Authentic Uruguayan asado contact us.

Dear Inna,
Welcome to Montevideo. I wish you could stay longer in our city so you could take a tour and visit our coast, which is one of the most beautiful in the world. There are some very nice beaches in Montevideo, it all depends on the location you will be, that is to say, I will not reccomend you a beach too far from where you stay. The water in all montevideo beaches come from the river Plate, which is clean, but not very clear, so do not alarm if you don't see a clear and green sea. The most beautiful beaches around are: Pocitos Beach (you can ask the taxi driver to take you to Brasil Avenue and La Rambla) if you're looking for a place full of young people playing sports. On the other hand, if you're looking for a quiet place you can go to Carrasco Beach, (ask the taxi driver to take you to Hotel Casino Carrasco) and there you will have a great time too.
Remember to take care of your skin, and buy a sun lotion with at least 25 factor protection.
I really hope this answer could help you. and once again, welcome to our country, have a good time!!!
Best wishes,
Fabianna

Eight hours? Why bother. May I suggest you change your itinerary and stay a few days to discover this incredible but small country. Then visit La Paloma and Cabo Polonio, but get away from the effluent of the Rio de la Plata. It is not very clean. If you can not change your itinerary, stay at our brand new state of the art Airport. It has a lot to offer for someone that is transiting Montevideo.
