Tips and reviews

Here's what Trippy members say about Pont du Gard:

"Courtney has hit on most of the places I'd recommend in the area with the exception of Saint-Remy-de-Provence which we made our base in the area, Nimes which has the fabulous Les Arènes de Nîmes and Pont du Gard."  See More

"In addition to the villages mentioned by Janice, take a look at Saint-Remy-de-Provence, Les Baux-de-Provence and Maussane-les-Alpilles, which are central to seeing the Pont du Gard, the Roman ruins and charm of Arles, and Nimes, which is technically just outside Provence, which also has Roman ruins, including the Maison Carrée, which inspired Thomas Jefferson."  See More

"I also agree with Floriane who wrote about Pont du Gard."  See More

"arenas and everything) Also, you should probably stop by Pont du Gard, which is like the most famous roman aqueduct in France."  See More

"My favorite sights, cities and villages within easy driving distance of Avignon are the Pont du Gard, Saint-Remy-de-Provence, Les Baux-de-Provence Les Antiques, Site Archéologique de Glanum,"  See More

"Lots of sites are easily reached from this area, including the Pont du Gard, which is well worth a visit."  See More

"A quick detour to the Pont du Gard is quite nice too."  See More

"I have spent 3 days in the area of Avignon this August ( 2023 ). The first thing I learned is that August is not recommended for car travelling to this part of France and not only while driving but mostly while trying to park your car at the extremely popular - crowded places of the area. Most of the parking lots are taken by the various open air markets which are at their peak during this month. Epigrammatically I mention the places worth visiting besides Avignon and not by value but rather by sequence of visiting in order to form a day trip. Day 1 Saint-Rémy-de-Provence - birth place of Nostradamus - His house can be visited Site Archeologique de Glanum - Roman city, next to Saint-Remy-de-Provence - one of the 10 most beautiful villages of France. Don't miss the spectacle Carrières des Lumières it worths every penny of its ticket. Arles with ancient Roman structures and favourite city of Vincent van Gogh Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer, filming spot of the Da Vinci code Nimes with ancient Roman structures and beautiful restaurants around the Arènes de Nîmes. On your way back to Avignon don't miss the Pont du Gard - the Roman water bridge - which even though is free of charge to visit you can't avoid the 9 EURO parking ticket . Day 2 Goult, beautiful, pittoresque village Roussillon, quitte crowded pittoresque village Gordes, one more village amongst the 10 most beautiful villages of France Fontaine de Vaucluse, the pittoresque village on the springs of the river Sorgue. L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue - the city surrounded by the river Sorgue - and its beautiful sceneries. That's all from me. Travel safely."
