- Montreal used to be thought of as a DJ's city. Historically the kids have always flocked down to the dance clubs and after-hours parties, where clubs like Stereo are open until the sun comes up. But since this is also the home of Godspeed! You Black Emperor, and of course the Grammy-winning Arcade Fire- people are starting to realize that this is also a guitar city. And on any night of the week you will find many venues with local bands and the biggest names in Indy music playing to appreciative crowds all around the city. And some of the best venues in town for live music are easily accessible in the very walkable (even at 3am downtown core). From the old standard Foufounes Electric- the place that housed bands like Nirvana and Smashing Pumkins (when only a handful of people knew them enough to show up) to local favourite watering holes like Barfly-there is never enough time to see all of the local band who are playing. Here is a list of the top ten places to catch live music in the city. The last on the list, Il Motore, is only the last because it's the latest club in town. But this lion packs a roar and has been blessing the city with some of the best live music anywhere.
