Montreal's reputation is less a veggie heaven, and more a gourmand's paradise, a rich cornucopia of all things fois and gras, and of course Reuben Schwartz's gift to cardiologists everywhere, the "Medium Fat on Rye." And while there are a few absolutely vegetarian-unfriendly restaurants in town, there are actually more vegetarian restaurants in Montreal than one might imagine; even two small local veggie fast food chains (in tourist unfriendly food courts not worthy of a Top 10 list). And the best Vegetarian restaurants in Montreal are quite memorable, stand up to the quality of Montreal's gastronomic reputation, and when looked at all together-- they actually represent the joie du vivre essence of the city; a world-beat inspired restaurant, gourmet fake-meat Asian cuisines, one more small veggie chain (very hot, and worthy of the Top 10) spreading around town that's all-raw, the world's best BaCoconut Lettuce Tomato sandwich, and an Indy restaurant show-bar, are just some of the highlights you will find in town if you are looking for veggie fare. If you are a hardcore carnivore, this list is not for you, but if you are raw, vegan, or weekday-vegetarian (or non-denominational, and just so happen to like frequenting veggie restaurants) this selection of restaurants will certainly please your palate.
