Description:
The doorman has been known to wear a pith helmet. The fauna fixation continues in a crowded lobby that incorporates a pair of 1.8m (6-ft.) carved elephants, two gold-colored crocodile sculptures, and a nude female figure with stained-glass butterfly wings sitting atop a splashing fountain. Welcome to Montréal, Vegas-style! A French-style brasserie is the main restaurant. Lunches are available beside the pool on the roof, 20 stories up; in the evening, there's dancing under the stars. Off the lobby, a cabaret lounge featuring a piano player and jazz duos on weekends leads into Thursday's, a singles bar and restaurant with a spangly disco and a terrace opening onto lively rue Crescent. After all that, the relatively serene bedrooms seem downright bland. Given all these inducements, a stay here is a genuine bargain, especially in contrast to other downtown options.
