Description:
In 1912, the Ritz-Carlton opened its doors to the carriage trade, and that clientele has remained faithful. Over the years, their Pierce-Arrows gave way to Rolls-Royces and Mercedes, and a few of these are always parked in readiness near the front door. A much-needed renovation restored the gloss and excellence of service that this hotel had long possessed. Rooms are large and traditional, most with tinkling glass chandeliers; some have marble fireplaces. Goose-down and non-allergenic foam pillows are standard, as are three phones and two telephone lines for each room and padded hangers. Marble bathrooms are equipped with robes and speakers carrying TV sound, and complimentary overnight shoeshine is available. The Café de Paris is favored for its high tea, weekend brunches, and weekday power breakfasts. Meals are served at Le Jardin du Ritz in summer, next to the garden's famous duck pond and its ducklings. The more hushed Ritz Bar has cocktails and dinner daily until 11pm.
