Description:
- Au Pied du Cochon's chef/owner Martin Picard is a big star in the Canadian food scene, and for good reason. His passions for pleasing the pallet, and his gastronomic sixth sense has created many memorable evenings and has become a must-see for the worldly traveller looking for the best meal in Montreal, especially if they are looking for a decadent, fatty and delicious repast.
The place is so famous that there's even a gift shop with T-Shirts, an Au Pied do Cochon CD, maple and corn ketchups, and of course, award-winning cook books. A word of warning, do not even bother to bring vegetarians to this establishment, there really isn't anything to offer them. That being said, when you plan on patronizing this Montreal institution, be ready for one of your most memorable evenings ever.
While many boast the best Poutine in Montreal, no one can take Au Pied du Cochon's crown—their special poutine is a Fois Gras poutine which some say is verging on illegal it taste so good. Picard is a master of foie gras, and all things duck and fatty, and creates sheer bliss in his kitchen. This is upscale modern-Quebecois food, so you will see your fair share of moose carpaccio, arctic char and quail eggs, and seal on the menu. But do not be alarmed, just go with your taste buds and all will be forgiven. The wine list is extensive and there are just as many respectable vintages to choose from.

No one rushes you out the door as they expect everyone to relish in post-meal bliss and enjoy some coffee and aperitifs. Take your time, and enjoy. Those are some of the orders you get at Au Pied (as the locals like to call it). It is crowded and noisy and you will leave stuffed. But above all else, Au Pied de Cochon is fun. Pure unmitigated high-cholesterol fun.

Honestly, it was a pretty good meal. In fact, for most, it was probably great. I was with 2 other guys in our late 20's. I found the Foie Gras to be too rich but for the most...
