Description:
Although it doesn't look especially promising at first approach, this is a keeper. The restaurant charges almost unbelievably low prices for several four-course meals daily. The blackboard menu changes depending on what's available at the market that day, making it possible to dine here twice a day for a week without repeating anything, except the uninteresting salad. Roast pork with applesauce, glazed duck leg, and choucroute garnie (sauerkraut with meat) are likely to show up, but the specialty of the house is seafood -- watch for the shrimp in Pernod sauce. Well short of chic, the interior doesn't make the most of the stone walls and old beams, but the decor hardly matters at these prices and relative quality. The crowd is diverse, with a wide range of ages and occupations.
