Neither a butcher shop nor a pickup joint, MeatMarket is actually a stylish gourmet sandwich and burger café, located on a nondescript block of Boulevard St-Laurent north of the fancier restaurant action. There are vegetarian and salad options, but if you can, go for one of the meats: maybe the Cuba Libre sandwich with grilled pork, plantain, Cuban marinade, and mint-and-mango ketchup, or one of five burgers. The Swiss Miss burger, with bacon, Swiss, caramelized onion, and mayo with pesto, was short of sublime, but only just. Led Zeppelin on the stereo added exactly the right kick.
