NileGuide Expert Says:
Sovietsky Hotel’s claim to fame is Yar, a pre-Revolutionary restaurant which fed everyone from Rasputin to Gorky. The hotel was actually built around the restaurant, by the decree of Stalin, in the mid-1950s. It's slightly expensive, but you’re paying for history.
Description:
- This Soviet-era hotel is built where an old restaurant once stood. While its exterior is fairly sober, its interior is opulent and palatial with plenty of high ceilings, marble floors and columns. Only a 10 minute drive from the Kremlin, the hotel is situated on a major Moscow thoroughfare, which also leads out to Sheremetyevo-2 airport. The grand Yar restaurant serves both Russian and European cuisine and can be hired out for banquets and buffets. It can provide catering for up to 400 people. Live musical shows are also staged here and guests are entitled to a discount on the admission price.
