Maiakovskii Theatre

Description:

  • This theater, founded in 1922, was originally named the Revolutionary Theater. The first director wanted to stage an array of plays dedicated to the October Revolution and revolution in general. Through out time the theater became broadly concerned with, and its performances reflected, political and historical problems -- the Russian civil war, the Five-Year Plans, the Stalinist Purges and WWII. Current theater efforts are devoted to works, which explore the relationship between the individual and society. The present group of actors is one of the most interesting and talented in Moscow.
