Description:
- Silicon Valley's nationally acclaimed TheatreWorks, closes its 37th season with the revival of Stephen Sondheim's classic musical Merrily We Roll Along; a tale of one successful man's nostalgic look back through three decades of his life, to figure out how it got so lonely at the top. Artistic Director Robert Kelley takes you on a journey backward, starting in the early 1980's when the internally conflicted Film Producer Franklin Shepard, has seemingly abandoned his two oldest friends, along with his first love of composing Broadway music, for a life of superficial relationships and money-driven ideals. The musical works in reverse and eventually you see Frank as an idealistic young man with dreams of changing the world, along with his two best friends Mary and Charley, who thematically try to save Frank from the seduction of fame and money. Featuring Sondheim's musical delights, "Not a Day Goes By," "Good Thing Going," and "Our Time," Merrily We Roll is delightful, and sends an inspiring message of why it is most important to stay true to your dreams, and your friends. Playing through April 29th at the Center for the Performing Arts in Mountain View. -Daisy Kuchins
