    • The Blue Frog is probably the best place place in Mumbai to catch some live music. Set up in one of the former mills of the Lower Parel area, this establishment actually began as a recording studio for one of the founding partners. The story goes that the space purchased turned out to be way bigger than expected which lead to the formation of a live performance space and dining area to be incorporated as well into the original design. When you first see the seating area in the Frog, you might think it looks a bit spaceage-ish with strangely cut-out booths and hundreds of bumps on the wall but there is a method to the madness. All the seating and the overall performance area has been created to provide the best acoustic experience possible for the listener no matter where they are seated. The nice thing about the Frog is that they expose local audiences to some really varied talent across borders and genres. So on one night you might find yourself listening to local singer-songwriters or an outfit playing French Nu Jazz or a beat-boxing group to even Indo-Western classical fusion. They used to bring down tons of artists in the past which slowed a tiny bit due to the recession. However since early 2010, things are back in full swing. In fact the entertainment on offer is now even more diverse with lots of world famous DJs (Goa Gill, Sasha) also making the Frog a stop on their India tours. Aside from local and international talent showing off their musical skills, the Frog also provides itself as a platform for showcasing comedic talent by hosting amateur nights featuring budding standup comedy acts. Along with this Blue Frog also conducts the odd Masterclass in the Arts with a renowned expert in a particular field as well covers sporting events like Formula 1 or the on-going FIFA World Cup in South Africa and their Sunday brunch is also quite the popular affair. It is an expensive place to come to just for a few drinks but there are deals on offer in several instances which helps control the damage to your wallet. I am not a regular visitor to the Blue Frog despite my review sounding like I probably live there but it is the one place I always recommend to anyone especially friends coming into Bombay who are looking for some really good live music.
