Veer Mata Jijamata Udyan and Zoo, Byculla East, Byculla, Mumbai, Maharashtra

  • User Review:

    • The Zoo is one of the largest areas with greenery in South Mumbai with a zoo also included in the area and some of the most exotic trees and plants also included. The zoo also houses the stone elephant which was brought here from the Elephanta Islands after an unsuccessful attempt at lifting it with a crane during the British times when it broke in some places before it was lifted finally. It also houses some of the old statues of British statesmen and even one of Queen Victoria which is kept in the lawns next to the Bhau Daji Lad Museum (erstwhile Victoria and Albert Museum). The Zoo has a lot of different animals but not all are in very clean and hygienic conditions and are kept in very small enclosures or cages which is not so good for the animals.
