Maxvorstadt and Schwabing
Once home to Munich's artistic and Bohemian population, Schwabing is now a popular as a destination for young German professionals. For the visitor, Schwabing offers fantastic museums, Leopoldstrasse (full of bars, restaurants and cinemas), Ludwigstrasse (a veritable gallery of 19th century magnificence) and art nouveau buildings. It also abuts the Englischer Garten, full of lush, manicured lawns and gardens and perfect for an afternoon stroll. All of this is true, but be aware that this is also the most expensive part of an expensive city.
