Antikensammlungen (Museum of Antiquities)

Antikensammlungen (Museum of Antiquities) - Munich
  • Type: Museums
  • NileGuide Expert Says:

Do this as an easy combo with the Glyptothek across the street.

  • Description:

    • This collection of antiquities, now considered the state collection, was founded by King Ludwig I and so it was fitting when it was decided that the antiquities collection would have a final place inside the neoclassical hall at Königsplatz, which was also built by King Ludwig I.  Before the 1960's this collection was moved from museum to museum, but in 1964 it was put together with other collection to make for a permanent exhibition.  On display are ancient vases, Greek, Roman, and Etruscan jewelry, pottery, colored glass, and bronzes.

The Antiquities museum is located on the south side of the Königsplatz, directly on the U2 line or a 10 minute walk North of the main train station, the Hauptbahnhof.
