Description:
- This massive bronze statue called simply "The Bavaria" is 18.52 meters tall, which is located on a large pedestal on the hillside over looking the famous Oktoberfest grounds. Cast at the Munich foundry of J.B. Stiglmair between 1844 and 1850, it was the first colossal statue built since classical antiquity. Visitors can ascend the 66 steps inside the statue to look out from inside Bavaria's crown and its impressive view over the city.
Behind the Bavaria is the so called "Hall of Fame" of Bavarians, with busts of every important Bavarian over the last 150 years. - © NileGuide2013
