- Shompole Lodge is not for those who are "light in pocket", but it is an experience like no other. I was completely blown away by this place. Situated on the Nguruman Escarpment, where one looks into Tanzania from there, this place is breathtakingly beautiful. First of all, it's an eco-hotel.And it has an open-plan design, for everything. There are no doors to anywhere but the kitchen, I think. Each room has a "cool-pool" - your own personal pool - and an informal sitting area. And no two rooms are alike. The decor is wonderful, the view is spectacular and the service is pleasant. The local Masai community help run the place, and they are wonderful people. They also arrange for game drives and other interesting activities. And it's all very private; you can hardly know that anyone else is around if that is your desire. Such a beautiful place... I'd go back there every year, if my pocket would allow it!
