    • Among those in the know, this low-key, part-alfresco eatery that spills out of an old colonial mud and wattle bungalow is unquestionably the best restaurant in Nairobi. And somehow, despite even the New York Times raving about the feta and coriander samosas, the Talisman has retained the air of a well-hidden secret. Run by a radiant British couple, Ian and Charlotte Cameron, the Talisman is a rustic, lovely place overlooking a mature garden with space for kids to run around. Inside there are crackling log fires, cozy furnishings, and paintings by local artists. The setting is one thing, but they produce some seriously good food to back up their reputation: pan-seared fresh yellow fin tuna, grilled ostrich filet with sweet-and-sour plum sauce, prime Kenyan Highland beef grilled with red wine reduction, perfectly tender Molo lamb kebabs, smoked Lake Victoria tilapia, and even good old-fashioned fish and chips. They've successfully kept their focus on creating simple, unbeatable classics, making this a must. And, yes, the samosas are unforgettable.
