Tucked behind a high fence right on the historic Silverado Trail, luxurious Milliken Creek Inn takes full advantage of its glorious location on three acres hugging the lush green banks of the Napa River. The original building has been in operating inn since it was a stagecoach stop in the 1850s, but there are no overly quaint decor or squeaky floor-type inconveniences. In fact, thanks to five-star upgrades over the past two decades, Milliken Creek's vibe is spanky clean with a Zen-infused serenity. Repeat guests treasure the privacy and spaciousness of the rooms, which have an "everything you ever wanted" attention to detail. King-size bed facing an oversize fireplace: check. Gigantic flat-screen TV with an impressive selection of free movies: check. Freestanding oversize Jacuzzi tubs with state-of-the-art massaging jet system: check. French doors opening onto private riverside patio or balcony: check. But wait, there's more. The evening's "magic hour" gathering introduces guests to the vintages of a local winery, accompanied by cheeses, chutneys, olives, and other indulgences. For breakfast, guests select their choices the night before by noting them on a card left hanging on the door. Breakfast arrives at the appointed time with a discreet knock on the door; the generous basket of goodies can then be taken outside for a private meal on the terrace or patio. The onsite spa takes the Asian sanctuary vibe a step further, with polished floors and clean white cottons reminiscent of a Japanese ryokan. Massages, body wraps, and other treatments are offered by some of Napa's most respected practitioners; in-the-know locals visit the spa for treatments when there's an opening.
